Google Analytics (GA4) picks this up automatically because it’s a standard event. But the extra EasyFinder fields, like the number of results or active filters, won’t show up in your reports until you register them. This guide walks you through that setup. ### Before You Start Make sure GA4 is installed on your site and the `view_search_results` event is coming through. You can check this in **Admin** → **DebugView** while doing a search on your site. ### What EasyFinder Sends The `view_search_results` event includes the following fields: Field What it tells you `search_term` The word or phrase the user searched for. `ef_total_exact_results` Number of results that exactly match the search. `ef_total_relaxed_results` Extra results found through smart (semantic) matching. `ef_search_method` Which part of EasyFinder triggered the search (for example `search` or `widget`). `ef_total_active_filters` How many filters the user had active at that moment. `ef_source` Always `easyfinder`. Handy to separate these events from other search events. ### Step 1. Open Google Analytics Log in to **analytics.google.com** and select the property connected to your website. ### Step 2. Register the EasyFinder Fields as Custom Dimensions To make the `ef_*` fields show up in your reports, you need to register them as custom dimensions. Go to **Admin** → **Custom definitions** → **Custom dimensions** → **Create custom dimension**. Create one for each EasyFinder field: Dimension Name Scope Event Parameter EF Exact Results Event `ef_total_exact_results` EF Relaxed Results Event `ef_total_relaxed_results` EF Search Method Event `ef_search_method` EF Active Filters Event `ef_total_active_filters` EF Source Event `ef_source` You don’t need to register `search_term`. GA4 already includes it by default for this event. ### Step 3. Check It’s Working Go to **Admin** → **DebugView** in GA4 and do a search on your site. The `view_search_results` event should appear within a few seconds, with all `ef_*` values filled in. Custom dimensions can take up to 24–48 hours to appear in regular GA4 reports. DebugView shows them right away, so use it to confirm your setup works. That’s it. From now on, every EasyFinder search on your site flows into Google Analytics with all the context you need to build useful reports. ## How to Capture EasyFinder Events in Google Tag Manager Every time someone sees search results on your site, EasyFinder sends an event with useful info: what they searched for, how many results came back, and how many filters they used. With a little setup in Google Tag Manager (GTM), you can capture all of it and forward it to the tools you use, like Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other tag. ### What EasyFinder Sends Each time a search result page is shown, EasyFinder pushes this event to the data layer: // Example event from EasyFinder { event: "view_search_results", search_term: "running shoes", ef_total_exact_results: 24, ef_total_relaxed_results: 8, ef_search_method: "search", ef_total_active_filters: 2, ef_source: "easyfinder" } Here’s what each field means: Field What it tells you `search_term` The word or phrase the user searched for. ### Step 1. Open Google Tag Manager Log in to **tagmanager.google.com** and open the container connected to your website. If you don’t have GTM installed yet, set that up first by following Google’s quick-start guide. ### Step 2. Add the EasyFinder Fields as Variables GTM needs to know which fields to read from the event. Go to **Variables** → **New** → **Data Layer Variable**. Create one variable per field. For each one, fill in the **Data Layer Variable Name** exactly like this: - `search_term` - `ef_total_exact_results` - `ef_total_relaxed_results` - `ef_search_method` - `ef_total_active_filters` - `ef_source` Give each variable a clear name (e.g. `DLV - search_term`) and save. ### Step 3. Create a Trigger Now tell GTM when to react. Go to **Triggers** → **New** → **Custom Event**. Fill in: - **Event name:** `view_search_results` - **This trigger fires on:** All Custom Events Save it as `CE - view_search_results`. ### Step 4. Create a Tag Now build the tag that sends the event to the tool of your choice. The most common setup is a Google Analytics (GA4) tag. Go to **Tags** → **New** → **Google Analytics: GA4 Event**. Fill in: - **Measurement ID:** your GA4 ID (looks like `G-XXXXXXX`) - **Event Name:** `view_search_results` Under **Event Parameters**, add a row for each field: Parameter Name Value `search_term` `{{DLV - search_term}}` `ef_total_exact_results` `{{DLV - ef_total_exact_results}}` `ef_total_relaxed_results` `{{DLV - ef_total_relaxed_results}}` `ef_search_method` `{{DLV - ef_search_method}}` `ef_total_active_filters` `{{DLV - ef_total_active_filters}}` `ef_source` `{{DLV - ef_source}}` Under **Triggering**, pick the `CE - view_search_results` trigger. Save the tag. Using a different tool like Meta Pixel or a custom HTML tag? You can still use the same trigger and variables. Just pick the tag type that fits your tool. ### Step 5. Test and Publish Click **Preview** in GTM and open your site. Do a search and check that the event fires and all values look correct. When everything looks good, click **Submit** and publish your container. If the tag doesn’t fire, check that the event name matches `view_search_results` exactly. It’s case-sensitive. That’s it. Your EasyFinder events are now flowing through Google Tag Manager and ready to be used in any tool you connect. If you’re sending these events to Google Analytics, there’s one more step on the GA4 side to make the `ef_*` fields visible in your reports. Check out our guide on capturing EasyFinder events in Google Analytics. ## How to set up Product boosting With ranking rules in EasyFinder, you can control which products appear higher or lower in search results. Use them to boost specific products, prioritize in-stock items, promote certain brands, or push down products you want to de-emphasize. This gives you full control over how your results are ranked. ### Step 1. Open the Ranking Rules Log in to **app.easyfinder.ai** and go to **Ranking rules** in the dashboard. Here you’ll find an overview of all your existing rules. To create a new one, click **Add ranking rule**. ### Step 2. Name your rule Start by giving your rule a clear name. This is only for your own reference, so pick something descriptive. For example: `Boost brand Adidas`, `Demote out of stock`, or `Push summer collection`. ### Step 3. Set the Condition Logic Next, choose whether your rule uses **AND** or **OR** logic. This matters when you add multiple conditions: - **AND** means *all* conditions must be true for the rule to apply. - **OR** means the rule applies if *any* of the conditions is true. For example, if you want to boost products that are from brand “Adidas” **and** are in stock, use AND. If you want to boost products that are from “Adidas” **or** “Nike”, use OR. ### Step 4. Add Conditions Click **Add condition** to define what products this rule should target. Each condition has three parts: - **Attribute** – Select a field from your feed, such as `Brand`, `Availability`, or any custom field available in your data. - **Operator** – Choose how the attribute should be compared. The available options are: - **Value** – Enter the value to compare against. This can be text (e.g. `Adidas`) or a number (e.g. `0`), depending on the operator you selected. Operator Description **Equals** The value must be an exact match. **Not equals** The value must *not* match. **In** The value must be one of the specified values. **Not in** The value must *not* be any of the specified values. **Greater or equal** The value must be greater than or equal to the given number. **Less or equal** The value must be less than or equal to the given number. You can add as many conditions as you need by clicking **Add condition** again. All conditions follow the AND/OR logic you set in the previous step. ### Step 5. Set the Boost Score Under **Boost score**, use the slider or input field to set a value between `-100` and `+100`. - A **positive score** (e.g. +50) pushes matching products **higher** in the results. - A **negative score** (e.g. -30) pushes matching products **lower** in the results. The higher the absolute value, the stronger the effect. ### Step 6. Optional: Schedule the Rule Under **“When should this rule work?”**, you can optionally set a **start date** and **end date**. This is useful for time-limited promotions or seasonal campaigns. If you leave it empty, the rule will be active as long as it’s enabled. ### Step 7. Optional: Limit to Specific Queries By default, a ranking rule applies to **all search queries**. If you want it to only trigger on specific searches, enable **“Specific queries”** under **Query trigger** and define the search terms. This option is mostly relevant for advanced or technical setups. For most use cases, leaving it on “All queries” works perfectly fine. ### Step 8. Save and Manage Click **Save** to activate your rule. It will appear on the right side of the screen in your rules overview. You can always edit an existing rule by clicking the **edit button** next to it. ### Common Use Cases Here are a few practical examples to get you started: Goal Condition Score Boost a specific brand Brand **Equals** `Adidas` +60 Demote out-of-stock products Availability **Equals** `0` -80 Promote high-stock items Availability **Greater or equal** `10` +40 Push down specific brand Brand **Equals** `NoName` -50 Once your rules are saved, EasyFinder will apply them automatically to every search. You can combine multiple rules to fine-tune your results exactly how you want. ## Use and connect your feed with EasyFinder If you want to get all your item/ product data into EasyFinder and make the search features work smoothly, here’s exactly how to do it. ### Step 1. Log in to EasyFinder Go to app.easyfinder.ai and log in. If you’re new, you’ll land in the onboarding interface. Here, you can choose from different integrations. If you want full control or no integration fits your website, select the card **“Live feed”**. ### Step 2. Add your feed URL In this step, you can paste the URL that points to your feed. Right now, EasyFinder supports **XML** or **JSON** feeds encoded in **UTF-8**. Before you paste it, make sure your feed is **complete and properly structured**, this ensures EasyFinder can read and sync all your data correctly. Below is an example structure based on a typical XML feed (like the one you might use for Google Merchant). The more data you include, the better EasyFinder’s search logic and filtering will work. **Feed Example Overview** Attribute Required Explanation and example **id** Yes Unique item identifier. Example: `431` **title** Yes Item name or title. Example: `Giant Anytour X bike` **link** Yes URL to the item page on your website. Example: `https://bikestore.com/e-bikes/giant-anytour-x/` **description** No Main item description. HTML is supported for formatting. Example: `Versatile E-bike for city and weekend rides...

]]>
` **image_link** No Main image shown in results. Must be a full URL. Example: `https://bikestore.com/images/anytour_main.jpg` **additional_image_link** No Extra image that appears when hovering over the main image. Example: `https://bikestore.com/images/anytour_side.jpg` **price** No Regular product price including currency. Example: `€ 2399,99` *Prices should be fully formatted (e.g. 32 EUR or $21.9). Thousand separators are not supported.* **sale_price** No Optional discounted price. Example: `€ 1999,99` *Prices should be fully formatted (e.g. 32 EUR or $21.9). Thousand separators are not supported.* **availability** No Item availability. Supported values: `[in_stock]`, `[out_of_stock]`, `[preorder]`, `[backorder]`, `[number]` Example: `out_of_stock` or `12` *You can use specific values in your ranking rules to boost a product’s position in the results.* **categories** No Category hierarchy. You can include **multiple categories**, each on its own line or wrapped in separate `` tags. Example: `Sports > Cycling > E-bikesSports > Long range` **brand** No Brand or manufacturer name. Example: `Giant` **custom fields** No Add as many extra fields as you want. For example: `black` or: `aluminumwood` *These can be used in filters or search logic, even if not shown visually.* Live example: [https://easyfinder.ai/wp-content/uploads/feed_example.xml](https://easyfinder.ai/wp-content/uploads/feed_example.xml) ### Step 3. Map and Extend Fields in EasyFinder After pasting your feed URL, EasyFinder will automatically detect most fields. You can then **add extra attributes** if you want to make them searchable or filterable. Everything you add here won’t necessarily be displayed, it just enhances the search and filter logic. ### Step 4. Optional: Use the Extra content Fields In EasyFinder, you can customize product cards based on fields in your feed. Use them to show extra content above or below the title, or to toggle badges like “Delivered within 24 hours” by providing a field (e.g. “inOneDay”) with a value like true or 1. Great for stock indicators, delivery info, item summaries, or small icons. To set this up, click “Item display settings”. If you want to use conditional logic, make sure “Advanced settings” are enabled via the settings icon. ### Step 4. Pagination EasyFinder also supports pagination in your feed. You can use a query parameter like ?page=2 to split your feed into multiple pages. Pagination is strongly recommended for all feeds and required if you have more than 50 items. We suggest including 10 items per page for best performance and faster syncing. ### Feed structure guidelines overview - Always use **UTF-8 encoding** for your feed. - Use either XML or JSON feeds. - Make sure to include at least one filterable type, such as a brand, custom field, or category. - Product feeds use or as the root element: - Any naming convention works, but following ours speeds up onboarding since it allows automatic detection. - Include as many relevant fields as possible. The more structured and readable the data, the better EasyFinder can interpret it. - XML guidelines: - Don’t use tag attributes. For example, use `123` instead of `...`. - Keep the structure as flat as possible. Some nesting is fine, but avoid deep or complex hierarchies. - No encoding of special characters (e.g., &): Black & White T-shirt Black & White T-shirt <![CDATA[Black & White T-shirt]]> - Don’t encode with both with CDATA and entities: <![CDATA[Black & White T-shirt]]> <![CDATA[Black & White T-shirt]]> Black & White T-shirt - When HTML is used as content of an field, use CDATA to wrap it Versatile E-bike for city and weekend rides...
